Cytoplasm

A viscous liquid found in cells where cell organelles are suspended. Cytoplasm together with the cell membrane forms the protoplasm.

Function    

  • Site for cellular chemical reactions.

 

Cell Wall

It is a rigid outer covering of plant cells made of cellulose and is fully permeable to molecules.

Between cell walls of two adjacent cells is a middle lamella that holds the two cells together.

Found in plant cells only.

Functions

  • Provides mechanical support and offers protection to the cell.
  • It gives plant cells a definite shape.
  • It prevents the osmotic bursting of cells.
