About Lesson

Pancreatic juice

The pancreatic juice is alkaline.

It contains:

  • Pancreatic amylase

Speeds up the breakdown of the remaining starch into maltose.

  • Trypsin

It is secreted in its inactive form trypsinogen (to prevent it from digesting the cells that secrete it).

It digests proteins into peptides.

  • Pancreatic lipase

Digests lipids into fatty acids and glycerol.

  • Sodium hydrogen carbonate

Neutralizes the acidic chyme and creates a suitable alkaline medium for pancreatic and intestinal enzymes.
