Phylum/division
A kingdom is divided into phyla (singular-phylum) in animals and division in plants.
Class
This is the third taxonomic unit in which members possess more common characteristics than those of phylum/division.
Order
- A class is further subdivided into smaller units called orders whose members resemble each other more closely than those of class.
Family
- This is a smaller subdivision of order
- It is made up of organisms with more common characteristics than those in the order.
Genus
Genus (plural-genera) is made up of organisms that resemble each other in structural features and characteristics but do not interbreed to produce fertile offspring.
Genus is a smaller sub-division of family.
