Viruses

Viruses are infectious agents with both living and non-living characteristics.

  • Viruses do not grow
  • They multiply or reproduce inside the host cell.
  • There genetic material is made up of either DNA or RNA (but not both)
  • They can mutate.
  • They are acellular, i.e. they lack cytoplasm and organelles
  • They respond to stimuli like light, temperature
