About Lesson
Agranulocytes (lymphocytes)
They work by producing antibodies that destroys pathogens
They lack granules in cytoplasm
They have bean-shaped nucleus
Formed in thymus and lymph gland
An example is monocytes.
Types of antibodies produced by lymphocytes
- Antitoxins – they neutralize toxins produced by pathogens
- Agglutinins – they cause microorganisms to clump together preventing them from multiplying.
- Lysins – they digest the walls or cell membrane of microorganisms.
- Opsonins – they adhere to the outer surface of microorganisms making it easier for phagocytes to engulf them.
