Structure and Function of Blood

The mammalian blood is composed of a fluid called plasma and cellular components namely: red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Functions of blood

  • Transport of gases, nutrients, metabolic wastes and hormones.
  • Regulation of pH and osmotic pressure.
  • Distribution of heat.
  • Protects from loss of blood during injury by blood clotting.
