Introduction to Gaseous Exchange

Gaseous exchange is the passing of respiratory gases across a respiratory surface.

Gases get into cells from the surrounding environment and out of the cells by simple diffusion.

Importance of Gaseous Exchange

  • Avails O2 to cells for respiration and eliminates CO2 from the respiring cells.
  • Plants absorb CO2 for photosynthesis
  • Ensures a balance in concentration O2 and CO2 in the atmosphere.
