About Lesson
Selective reabsorption
As the filtrate passes through the tubules, the peritubular cells extract the useful substances from it and pass them back to the bloodstream through different processes.
- Vitamins, glucose and amino acids are reabsorbed through diffusion.
- Salts and glucose are reabsorbed by active transport.
- Water molecules are reabsorbed by osmosis.
The waste products like urea and excess salts are not reabsorbed back into the bloodstream.
