About Lesson

Translocation of Organic Compounds

Translocation occurs in the sieve tubes of the phloem tissue.

Organic food is manufactured in the leaves and distributed to different regions such as growth, storage and secretory organs.

Much of the food is translocated in form of sucrose.

Other solutes carried in phloem include; amino acids and vitamins.

Methods of translocation include:

  • Diffusion
  • Active transport
  • Mass flow
  • Cytoplasmic streaming
