Transpiration

It is the loss of water in the form of water vapour from the leaves to the atmosphere through the stomata.

It takes place through:

  • Stomata in the leaves (85%). It is known as stomatal transpiration.
  • Cuticle of the epidermal cells (10%). It is known as cuticular transpiration.
  • Lenticels in the stems (5%). It is known as lenticular transpiration.
