About Lesson

Introduction

The transport system in plants consists of xylem and phloem tissues collectively known as vascular tissue (vascular bundles).

Xylem tissue conducts water and dissolved mineral salts from the roots to other parts of the plant.

Phloem tissue translocates manufactured food from leaves to other parts of the plant.

Importance of Transport in Plants

  • For distribution of water and mineral salts from the soil to all parts of the plant.
  • For distribution of synthesized food from the site of manufacture to other parts for use and storage.
  • For removal of waste products.
