About Lesson
Abiotic Factors
7. Salinity
It is the salt concentration of water.
It affects osmoregulation.
Divides the aquatic environment into 3: marine, estuarine and fresh-water.
Salinity can be determined by calculating percentage of salts in water or by the acid-base titration method.
8. pH (hydrogen ion concentration)
It is the measure of acidity or alkalinity of a solution.
It influences the distribution of animals in the soil and fresh water ponds.
Some plants thrive well in acidic conditions while others thrive in neutral or alkaline conditions.
Measured using a pH scale.
