Characteristics of Class Arachnida
- Have 2 body parts i.e. cephalothorax (head fused with the thorax)and abdomen.
- Have 4 pairs of legs.
- Have pedipalps and chelicerae.
Pedipalps are claw-like sensory structures also used for holding food.
Chelicerae, are a pair of jaws used to seize and hold the prey and inject paralyzing poisons into the prey. Also used for sucking.
- Have 8 simple eyes.
- Gaseous exchange is through the tracheal system.
- Have no antennae or mandibles.
