Characteristics

  1. Have one cotyledon in the seed embryo.
  2. Have long narrow leaves with parallel venation.
  3. Have fibrous roots. Also, have prop roots just above the ground.
  4. The vascular tissues are scattered within the stem.
  5. Lack vascular cambium.

Thus, they don’t undergo secondary growth/thickening within the stem.

  1. In the roots, the xylem and phloem alternate in a ring.
  2. The flower parts are arranged in threes (multiples of three).
