  1. Some are sources of antibiotics e.g. Penicillium.
  2. Some are used in baking and fermentation e.g. yeast cells.
  3. Some are sources of food e.g. mushroom.
  4. Recycling nutrients during decomposition by saprophytic fungi.
  5. Some cause food poisoning e.g. aflatoxin released by Aspergillus flavus.
  6. Some cause diseases e.g. rusts and blights in plants; and thrush and ringworms in animals.
