Internal fertilization
The fusion of the nuclei of male and female gametes occurs inside the body of the female. e.g. reptiles, birds and mammals.
Advantages of Internal fertilization
- There is a higher chance of fertilization
- Higher protection of gametes and fertilized eggs.
- Fewer gametes are required.
Disadvantages of Internal fertilization
- Less number of offspring due to less number of gametes.
- Offspring are less adapted to sudden changes in the environment after birth.
