Reproduction in Animals

Fertilization is internal i.e. a fertilized egg is laid or develops within the uterus of the female’s body.

Oviparity – is the ability to lay eggs.

Oviparous mammals – egg-laying mammals (monotremes), e.g. platypus

Marsupials – pouched mammals.

Viviparity – is the ability to give birth to young ones, e.g. placental mammals.
