Characteristics of Class Amphibia

  1. Gaseous exchange is through the skin, gills and lungs.
  2. Have four well-developed limbs.

The hind limbs are longer and more muscular than forelimbs.

The limbs can be used for movement on land and swimming in water.

  1. Have double circulatory system (blood passes through the heart twice in a complete circuit through the body).
  2. Have a three-chambered heart with two atria and only one ventricle.
  3. They breed in water and fertilisation is external.
  4. Have two eyes and an eardrum behind the eyes.
  5. Are ectothermic.
