Characteristics of Class Crustacea
- The cephalothorax is covered by a hard chalky shell called a carapace.
- Have 2 pairs of antennae.
- Have 5 or more pairs of jointed limbs.
The limbs are specialized to carry out different functions such as swimming, walking, defense and feeding.
- Body divided into 2 partse. cephalothorax and abdomen.
- Have 1 pair of compound eyes.
- Are herbivorous. Mainly feed on green algae.
- Gaseous exchange occur through gills.
- Have large distinct abdomen with several segments.
- Most are free living while others are parasitic.
