Biology Form 3
About Lesson

General Characteristics

  1. ** Are undifferentiated i.e. are not differentiated into roots, stems and leaves hence thallus body.
  2. ** Gametophyte generation is dominant over sporophyte
  3. ** Lack vascular (transport) system hence depend on diffusion and osmosis for transport of materials.
  4. Have rhizoids (root-like structures)

Rhizoids absorb water and mineral salts

Rhizoids provide anchorage

  1. Grow in damp well-sheltered surfaces e.g. rocks or tree barks.
  2. Thin-flat body structure (liverworts) or filamentous body structure (mosses)
  3. Are autotrophic and photosynthetic.
