Characteristics of Class Insecta
- Body is divided into three parts; head, thorax and abdomen.
- Have a pair of antennae.
- Have 3 pairs of legs.
- Have 1 or 2 pairs of wings.
Some are wingless.
- Undergo metamorphosis, which is either complete or incomplete.
- Gaseous exchange is through the tracheal system.
- Excretion is through Malpighian tubules.
- Mouthparts are modified for their mode of feeding e.g. Mandibles, maxillae and labium for biting and chewing and proboscis for sucking.
- Have compound eyes.
