Describe the role of mutations in evolution

  • Mutation is the change in genetic makeup of an individual. It can be advantageous, disadvantageous or have no effect Advantageous mutations make individual organisms better adapted; hence more likely to survive (survival of the fittest) and reproduce passing on the advantageous traits to the offspring.
