Haemophilia
A condition where blood takes a long time to clot. This is due to absence of important clotting factor that results from a recessive gene on the chromosome produced by gene substitution. The haemophilic gene prevents the production of the necessary clotting factors (especially clotting factor VIII called antihaemophiliac globulin, AHG).
Haemophiliac lose a lot of blood even from minor cuts. Persistent bleeding results into anaemia.
Remedies include introduction of clotting factors from blood donated from normal persons into haemophiliacs.
Couples are advised to undergo screening and genetic counselling.
