The Femur

This is a long bone found between the hip and the knee.

The head of the femur fits into the acetabulum forming the hip joint.

At the tip of the shaft, are the greater and lesser trochanters, which are extensions for muscle attachment.

The shaft of the femur leads to the lower end with expanded and rounded knobs called condyles.

The condyles articulate with the patella (kneecap).

They also articulate with tibia to form hinge joint.
